Online Video: Have you started marketing your art through video yet?

by Nicolette Tallmadge

It looks like the audience for online video sharing sites has doubled according to a report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. According to the report, the number of adults online that visit sites like YouTube to watch videos has gone from 33% in 2006 to 62% as of April 2009.

This means that if you haven’t at least started dabbling in online video, you need to start now…if not sooner. Since video is so visual, it’s actually a perfect way for artists to engage with their customers and get more traffic and new business. Remember that lovers of art and handmade love to see the creative process and to meet the makers behind the creation. And nothing can deliver that better on the web than some great videos!

But remember that not everyone has a computer fast enough to view videos. Do not rely solely on video. If the info is important, put it in text!

Most definitely! Search engines can’t really “read” videos like they do text, so always be sure to have text accompanying your video as well. It’s always important to have your content in multiple forms…text, images, audio, video. That way you can have your visitors choose how they want to see your content.
