Just wanted you to know that I pretty much got the site up & running & really could not have done so without your article! Still have a couple of images that don't seem quite right but will re-scan those & try again! Thank you ever so much!

Hi there!

I'm glad you're finding the series helpful! Please post any questions you may have about the series or about digital images in general! Calligraphy is definitely an image that needs to be in a GIF format. In the next couple of post I'll discuss other issues that might affect your GIF image.

Wow! I'm so thrilled to find your articles! I'm trying to help my MIL to create a calligraphy website & have been so stumped on scanning her calligraphy examples! They look fine on my computer but when I upload them to the website they look horrible! So glad to find some straightforward guidance! Thank you!

Exactly so. JPG images control their file sizes through a system of compression that can affect the quality of the image. I'll be explaining that more in depth in the next couple posts when I discuss file size and compression.

While JPG is a good format for delivery of photos online, it is not a good format for images which you plan to resize or edit more than a couple times. Any image you want to save and reuse for the long haul should really be saved in some lossless format like TIFF or PNG.
